The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office reported the following incidents:

SUSPICIOUS VISITOR: A Bethlehem woman called the sheriff’s office after she returned to her Madison Drive home around 6:10 p.m. on Oct. 5 to find a man sitting in an older model Acura in the driveway, claiming to work for Comcast.

The woman had cancelled her cable service recently, she told a deputy, but several things about the man were sketchy, including the fact that he wouldn’t give her a service number or an office to call to verify that he represented the company. He also had such a thick Jamaican accent, the woman had trouble understanding him.

She called Comcast, and a dispatcher could not verify that the man was sent to pick up company equipment, so the resident called 911.

The cable company representative left, but had posted a flyer on the door of the home with his real name and telephone number on it, making it unlikely that he intended any mischief there.

BURGLARY: A man in the 800 block of Old Thompson Mill Road reported on Oct. 5 that thief had taken several items from his Winder house sometime since Sept. 27.

The $1,255 in stolen items included a DVD player, caribou skin rug, two screwdriver sets, three Andy Griffith DVDs, a Popular Mechanics nutdriver/screwdriver set, a Craftsman fluorescent worklight and a flood light, a folding knife and a fake knife from India, an aluminum extension ladder, a chainsaw and two class rings.
